Have a Masters Mindset

For one weekend every year the eyes of the sporting world are looking at Augusta, Georgia. This year was no different and it is one that will be remembered thanks to a little history made at The Masters. Here’s the best part, you can decide which way you will remember this weekend.
Here’s what happened…
masters-logoJordan Spieth collapsed on the 12th hole of the final round of the Masters. He only had 8 holes left in the biggest golf tournament. He had a 5 stroke lead and looked like there was nothing that was going to stop him from winning the event. Jordan, at 22 years of age, is the defending champion and would have become only the 4th golfer to win in back to back years. If he held on to win the sports world would have been asking if he was the next Tiger, the next (Jack) Nicklaus and one of the greatest to play the game of golf. Sadly, this conversation did not occur.
Instead Jordan Spieth got ready to tee off at the 12th hole, a par 3, and after finding the water twice, and a bunker once, he ended the hole with a 7 (4 over par) and he never recovered.
Meanwhile, Danny Willett an excellent golfer in his own right, ranked just outside of the top #10 in the world and someone who most people could not pick out of a line-up took the lead and won the tournament and the coveted green jacket.
Now imagine how that could be you. Things are working well for you. You are having success at work and things almost feel too easy. Everything is moving along and all cylinders are clicking. Then all of a sudden you have a bad day. This bad day could be caused by something outside of work, or maybe it is work related. How do we keep moving forward so we don’t have a collapse that puts an end to an amazing week, month or even year? How do we make sure that we can get back up and are able to get back on top?
It is all about having the right mindset! This is the main focus of The ONE Thing Workshop. Some of the things that you can learn and work on improving is how to create powerful habits, live a counter balanced life and surround yourself with the right people. Find out when The ONE Thing Workshop will be in your area and join me.
How is your mindset? Will you remember The Masters of 2016 as a great come from behind win for Willett or will you remember it as the collapse of Spieth?
Oh and while all of that was happening the Golden State Warriors tied the Chicago Bulls with their 72 win of the NBA season and a chance to set a new record at 73 wins, something that has never been done before.
Don’t forget that while many things can distract us and pull our focus, there is always the chance that someone is coming out of what seems to be nowhere to set records behind you!

That way you take care of yourself before you attempt to take care of others and can be the most helpful. Take a moment and figure out what it is that gives you a positive mindset. Is it a walk in the woods? Some quiet time with a book? Is it a great meal that you prepare, and then get to enjoy eating? In Like a Lion…

Maybe you have heard the saying “March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb?”

What does that saying mean? The official answer, it is referring to the weather and how March usually starts cold and windy and ends with spring all around us as the weather gets warmer.

One thing that I hope is that this saying never applies to you. This saying should never apply to your business life or your personal life. Please do not let a month come in like a lion and go out like a lamb. Instead let’s always be working to make sure that your month starts with a roar of a lion and ends up as a pride. For those wondering a pride is a group of lions.

  • If your month starts strong, keep going and build on it.
  • If your month starts average, then step it up.
  • If you month starts with a whimper just remember that at anytime with some effort you can turn that whimper into a big ROAR!

Stop for a moment and imagine what your business, your relationships, your bank account, your whole life could look like, if each month was a slightly louder roar then the month before. (This is where you stop and imagine before returning to read more…just be sure to come back and finish reading)

It doesn’t take a lot to raise the volume of your roar. Check off these 5 simple things each day:

5 checkmarks

  1. Make 1 more sales call or customer follow up call before you leave work for the day. You will walk out feeling like you did your job and now and then you will walk out with an additional success.
  2. Send a thank you text before during the day to 2 people that you are grateful for from that day. You will see more happiness around you, you will be bringing happiness to other people and you will fill yourself with more happiness.
  3.  Help 3 people a day. These can be things such as holding a door, to buying coffee for the person behind you in line, to things like helping someone move. Do these things without looking for something in return and you will get something in return!
  4.  Take a moment each day and remember what you are doing it all 4. OK we know we reached with the for/4 thing, just go with it. Without knowing your purpose and remembering your purpose you will get derailed.
  5. Read 5 pages of something that will help you grow. One must always be continuing to learn to develop a larger roar!

These activities will keep you working a little harder, thinking a little bigger and becoming a better person. Do these simple steps as a part of your daily activities and your roar will continue to grow and grow until everyone can hear it!

Let your roar be heard!

Rethink Possible

Every now and again we have to reboot the cable box. When it finally restarts, on the blue screen, the AT&T U-verse system always reminds us to Rethink Possible.

While most people will see a logo and a slogan from AT&T and would just impatiently be waiting for their system to reboot, this would normally be me, these words hung on our screen for what seemed like an eternity.

Rethink-Possible-ATT

Rethink Possible. What is possible? What are my thoughts telling me? Without self-limitations what could become possible?

We know the story of the impossible four-minute mile that once broken by Roger Bannister in 1954. While nobody thought it possible and nobody had been able to accomplish this feat, once Roger took a moment to rethink possible and train differently he was able to achieve this goal. Now the four-minute mile is the standard of all male professional middle distance runners.

Of course where would we be today without the Wright brothers, rethinking possible? We would still be traveling on a lot more road trips!

What can you do to rethink possible?

Unlike the Wright brothers and Roger Bannister there is possibly someone who has already achieved what is possible. Reach out to those people and follow the path they have already set out for you. If it is possible for one, it can be possible for you as well.

Other ways to rethink possible:

  • Write down what you think is not possible and then on a different piece of paper write the opposite. Then dispose of the limiting thought.
I am not able to sell 50 units this year. I will sell 50 units this year.
  • Break down impossible to see how possible it actually can be.
50 units this year = 1 unit a week – now focus on something possible like 1 a week instead of the large number of 50 a year
  • Finish something else you were starting to think might not be possible. The accomplishment will help you see how other things are possible.
Finish that book or home improvement project you have been putting aside.

Nothing is truly impossible it might just take time, finances or the right people around you to achieve your target. If you rethink possible, you will find that solution.

AT&T might be moving their brand away from Rethink Possible towards Mobilizing Your World to stay with the times and express a different image. Esther Lee, senior vice president for brand marketing, advertising and sponsorship at AT&T, says that “AT&T remains a ‘Rethink Possible’ company and this line will remain our company signature on all corporate assets.”

You might also change your focus once you have achieved your target success because once you learn to rethink possible, you will always be able to rethink possible!

Chadalyst  RETHINK POSSIBLE – what is something that you have been limiting yourself with? Write your negative and limiting thought on a piece of paper…write the opposite on a different piece of paper…crumple the first limiting thought and throw it away!

Halloween or your life

Halloween is the perfect way to look at your life and the perfect time to make some changes because you don’t have to wait for New Year’s Eve for that.

Each year we dress up in crazy costumes (some of you crazier than others) and shed our inhibitions and get out there. Maybe it is the safety of the costume or maybe it is just the fact that for a night we don’t listen to that little voice in our heads.

Out we go, meeting our neighbors finally and saying hello to complete strangers. We go with one script in mind…Trick or Treat.

Of course we know that we are getting a treat. When was the last time you got a trick performed for you?

You go door to door (or store to store in the shopping mall now) and repeat the same script again and again and again.

When the night is over, you have a bag filled with candy. How much candy is up to you as it depends on how focused you were or how slow you went through the night.

Now the important part…you sort through the candy. Some of it is great and some of it is not so great. Remember that even not so great candy, is still candy! The only thing that you throw away are the toothbrushes and the candy that was melted.

This should be your life! Don’t believe us? Let’s take a look…

  • You dress up in crazy costumes – you dress up for work (maybe not as crazy, then again for some of you maybe crazier)
  • You should get out there to meet your neighbors and perfect strangers as no matter what business you are in you are always looking for new clients.
  • You should know your scripts as well as you know Trick or Treat! What will you say about yourself, about your product or about what you do all day long
  • You know what to say that your candy bag gets filled. In this case it is with business contacts, phone numbers or new people to add to your networking
  • You sort the candy bag. Some of those people are great people to know and some are not so great. Remember even a not so great contact in still a new contact!

Celebrate Halloween each and every day in your life and you will find your candy bag full!

Chadalyst  Go trick or treat and don’t come back until you have enough candy for the day (we mean, go meet people and don’t stop until you have met enough people or at least the right person for your business!)

NO is a Four Letter Word

No No No No No No No No No No. How do you feel now? Are you bleeding from anywhere? Is anything broken? Should we get you to a doctor right away?

No cannot hurt you. It is just a simple word that most of us are trained to say since a young age. Think back, and no is the word you probably heard the most often in your life.

No don’t touch that
No don’t open that
No don’t eat that!

Many of the sentences that our parents and teachers and even friends used started with the word no.

Think about anytime recently that someone asked you something or challenged you on something. Was the first word out of your mouth a no?

It is time to stop looking at no as a negative word and think of it as the four letter word it should be – good

If you never heard the word no you would never challenge yourself to learn more and to grow. Everything would be a yes and life would be simple and you would be comfortable with whatever you had and stop there. A no pushes you and that is good!

If you never heard the word no everyone would be succeeding the same. A no stops some people and allows others to find the next step needed. As we know you are a success already, you want to continue to stand out from others right? When you have heard a no you have used that to find the next yes and that is good and what helps set you apart.

If you have ever heard the word no then you have had to made a decision in your life. A decision to grow or a decision to accept the no and go on a different path. Whichever you have chosen it is good!

A no is a good thing to hear. Make it a goal to get at least 10 no’s in a day. If you can get those 10 no’s the yes that you earn will be worth it!

Do you enjoy the information found in these blogs? (we hope you are not giving us one of our 10 no’s with this question)

4 Things to Make You a Gentleman

Manners are disappearing in our world today. Children learn early to say please and thank you and that is where it seems to end. As we get older our manners seem to get worse and worse.

My dad always said to treat a woman the way you would want your mother treated. Hopefully this is a message that can resonate with you as well.

Men, here are 4 things that will help you be a stand out and make women believe that there are still gentlemen out there. Don’t worry you don’t need to dress like an old school gentleman to show the traits of one.

Ladies, don’t hesitate to share this with the men in your life.

1)The first is one you know, hold doors open.

With the invention of self opening doors at many stores men have gotten lazy with opening doors. Hold a door open for a lady. Open the door to the car, into a store and into anywhere with a door. This is a quick way to remind a woman that you see her as a lady.
clarification: If the door in question is a revolving door, men should go through first so that they can be the ones to get the door spinning with a push.

2)The second one is one that most men don’t even think about. Walk on the outside of your lady.

Whenever you are walking down the street make sure that you are on the side of her that the traffic is also on. This will keep her safe from anything flying up from the road in her direction.
clarification: When walking through a mall, be on the side of her that is not between her and the store. This will allow her the ability to window shop and keep you between her and the sales people at the cart offering just a quick free demonstration she wants to avoid.

3)The third one is one that might not be a part of your regular life. Make sure you have backseat courtesy.

We are not talking about staying on your side of the car, of course we know you already know that one. We are speaking about any time that you are taking a cab or riding with friends and you end up in the backseat. Never have her slide across the seat. As a gentleman you should either put her in the car and go around to the other side, or to be safe with a cab in a busy city, you should get in first and slide all the way over to make things easier on her. Plus have you ever had to slide across a seat in a dress or a skirt, it isn’t easy we have been told.

4)The fourth thing will put you a step ahead.

When on an escalator with a woman make sure you are ready to prevent her fall. That means that if you are going up the escalator you allow the lady to go before you. If you are heading down on an escalator make sure that you are the first to head down. Whether you are heading up or heading down, make sure you to stay the right to allow others to pass.
Of course none of this will matter if you forget the first lesson on manners you were ever taught. Always say please and thank you.

Chadalyst – Men, hold a door open for a lady today. Ladies, forward this to your men!

The World Isn’t Fair

There were a few sayings that our dads always were ready to share with us as we grow up, such as:

  • six to one, half a dozen the other
  • the maid isn’t coming today
  • pull my finger
Hopefully we learned lessons from these words of wisdom.
  • Sometimes it doesn’t matter which choice we make, just make one.
  • Clean up after yourself because nobody else is going to do it for you. This means your physical messes as well as emotional ones you create (we don’t understand that second part until much later in life)
  • Be careful when something seems easy as it might not bring results that you desire

There were many other sayings that dads always have to share and my dad had his favorite one…The World Isn’t Fair! This might have been one of the hardest lessons for a kid to understand as we were always told to be fair and share and use our manners and then the world didn’t follow those same rules.

Maybe you were the most qualified for that job position or maybe you did work really hard on a project that someone else took the credit for. It might have been that you were planning a vacation that had to be canceled or you were rear ended in your brand new car.

Whatever it was that the world did to you, dad always seemed to have the same piece of advice…the world isn’t fair, and what are you going to do about it?

This was all captured well by the wonderful cartoonist Bill Watterson in this Calvin and Hobbes comic strip…

Wisdom from Calvin and Hobbes

Calvin of course was overlooking the wonderful ways that the world isn’t fair did work in his advantage. How many other kids got away with the stuff he did? How many other kids had an amazing talking imaginary tiger/best friend like he did? We know Calvin is a comic and not real (you knew that right?) and yet we often act the same way.

Think about all the times you have claimed the world isn’t fair to someone. Now stop for a moment and think about all of the ways the world isn’t fair AND in your favor?

Maybe you have a great partner in your life or a wonderful job you enjoy going to. Remember that you might have a home to go to which puts you ahead of the estimated 100 million homeless people in the world.

The world isn’t fair, and while sometimes it might pull the rug out from under you remember, there are many times that the world seems to revolve around you.

Thanks dads for all of the words of wisdom!

Chadalyst – Write down the 3 ways that the world is not fair and seems to be against you. Now take a moment and write down 3 ways that the world is not fair and in your favor! You will start to see the positive and stop worrying about the smaller issues.
