Halloween or your life

Halloween is the perfect way to look at your life and the perfect time to make some changes because you don’t have to wait for New Year’s Eve for that.

Each year we dress up in crazy costumes (some of you crazier than others) and shed our inhibitions and get out there. Maybe it is the safety of the costume or maybe it is just the fact that for a night we don’t listen to that little voice in our heads.

Out we go, meeting our neighbors finally and saying hello to complete strangers. We go with one script in mind…Trick or Treat.

Of course we know that we are getting a treat. When was the last time you got a trick performed for you?

You go door to door (or store to store in the shopping mall now) and repeat the same script again and again and again.

When the night is over, you have a bag filled with candy. How much candy is up to you as it depends on how focused you were or how slow you went through the night.

Now the important part…you sort through the candy. Some of it is great and some of it is not so great. Remember that even not so great candy, is still candy! The only thing that you throw away are the toothbrushes and the candy that was melted.

This should be your life! Don’t believe us? Let’s take a look…

  • You dress up in crazy costumes – you dress up for work (maybe not as crazy, then again for some of you maybe crazier)
  • You should get out there to meet your neighbors and perfect strangers as no matter what business you are in you are always looking for new clients.
  • You should know your scripts as well as you know Trick or Treat! What will you say about yourself, about your product or about what you do all day long
  • You know what to say that your candy bag gets filled. In this case it is with business contacts, phone numbers or new people to add to your networking
  • You sort the candy bag. Some of those people are great people to know and some are not so great. Remember even a not so great contact in still a new contact!

Celebrate Halloween each and every day in your life and you will find your candy bag full!

Chadalyst  Go trick or treat and don’t come back until you have enough candy for the day (we mean, go meet people and don’t stop until you have met enough people or at least the right person for your business!)

6 Warning Signs That You Are Using Social Media Wrong

We have heard from many “gurus” “experts” and even “ninjas” about making sure we develop relationships on social media. Do any of them really help us figure out how to use Social Media correctly or do they just come up with cool sounding titles for themselves?

Where else can you post to 1 billion users? How many other places are there that you can tweet to millions of people? Are there other places to connect with that many other professionals without even getting out of bed?

Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and so many other platforms have come onto the scene and every company is looking to social media to solve all of their challenges.

Here is a list of 6 warning signs that you are using social media wrong AND tips to help you with each of them so you can move in the right direction.

1) Your profile is not up to date
The first thing that people learn about you is what you have in your profile. If you are not up to date, then you are doing it wrong! Check to be sure you have the important jobs showing up and not all of the odd jobs you have had.
What about your contact info? If you are hoping to have people reach out and contact you make sure you are openly sharing your correct contact information. Get over the issue of someone might spam you!

Now let’s take a look at some of the things that you are posting, tweeting, and sharing on the different social media platforms and the warning signs that you are using social media wrong…

2)It is all about you
Take a look at your recent postings. Are they all about the wonderful things you are doing? Then you are doing it wrong. Make sure you are helping others solve problems. Make sure you are you sharing with others something you learned, read or saw. Make sure you remember that success on social media comes from listening, not talking

3)You post and run
When you do post something of value and people comment or retweet your posting do you return to engage with them? If you aren’t then you are doing it wrong. Take a moment to say thank you, to answer the follow-up question, to stay part of the conversation.
4)You are in it for the Klout perks
The point of a posting or a tweet is to share and engage, not get 500 people to like something so your Klout score can climb. If that is why you are posting, then you are doing it wrong! It is better to have 5 people comment and engage with you fully then 500 people comment and not really care. Care about Klout, then get Klout Klarity
5)You tag everyone for no reason
Are you are the person posting a photo, making a comment or writing a tweet and tagging or mentioning everyone possible for no reason other than you hope they will engage with you? You are doing it wrong! Tag people in photos with you. Tag someone who you are talking about. Mention someone who you are engaging with. Do not just tag hoping people pay attention to you.
6)You are extremely negative
Everyone has a bad day. If you are having a bad life and sharing it all the time, you are doing it wrong! Be transparent on social media and don’t post about some perfect life you aren’t really living. Don’t be the person that never has anything positive to say and wants to complain and bring everyone else down.

You can do it right and these 6 Warning Signs That You Are Using Social Media Wrong should help you make steps in the right direction.

Change – Are you ready for it?

Woody Allen is known for many things and credited as being the person that first said…If you want to make God laugh tell him your plans.

Ever plan a trip? What happens just before you leave? You get busy!
Ever plan a big event? What happens? The weather gets in the way or you find yourself under the weather.
Ever think you have it all set and ready to go? If I may be so bold as to quote God “HA HA that’s what you think”

This isn’t all bad and usually finds us in a place that we should have been instead of where we thought we were going.

Have a goal. Have a target. Have a plan. Just be ready for changes to come your way.

These changes, these challenges and these moments are what develop our character and help us to find out who we really are.

Are you the person that is calm under pressure or the one that breaks down and ends up in the corner not sure what to do? Are you on that thrives on the unexpected or one that needs things to go as planned? Are you someone who can be truly counted on by those that would need you?

Are you ready for your plans to be changed at a moments notice? Here are a few things you can do to be as ready as possible…
1) Take a moment to tell those in your life that are important to you how you feel. This way you will never regret if something is taken from you
2) Forget about your Bucket List – that is a list of things you will do “one of these days” Instead look at your list and figure out your Carousel Rings on that list and grab them! Not sure what your carousel rings are just check out this past posting

3) Journal all of it! Your thoughts, your feelings, your memories. Capture them someplace that you will have them forever and be able to share them with those closest to you.

Do these things and when your plans are changed be it a little thing or a big thing you will be able to deal with it better!

Chadalyst – Be ready for change – if it can happen, it will happen when you are least ready for it. How will you prepare?

The greatest gift from Apple

Just as you get ready to start working on your big rock for the day…your phone rings.
Now you are really ready to get to work on that project…a text message beeps and pulls your focus
Finally, this time you have got it! Here you go as you tune out everything and dive into your one big task of the day. You are making a dent, things are going well….buzz, beep, ring, tweet…whatever it is this time that distracts you.

Squirrel Syndrome is something that many people suffer from today. Your phone lights up, beeps, vibrates and you just can’t avoid it. You want to know what it going on in the world that you can’t focus on your work.

Time to thank Apple once again. Not for iTunes, not for the iPhone, not for the iHouse (oh, you don’t have one of those yet? I am sure they will be available soon)

This time, let’s thank Apple for the greatest thing that they have ever given us…

Do Not Disturb

Have you taken a moment to set this up yet?

1) Select the SETTINGS Application

2) Turn on Do Not Disturb. As you can see this is in a very easy to find location on the Settings screen

It is that easy. If you would like to set this up once and schedule it just follow these steps…

1) Select the SETTINGS Application

2) This time, just below the Do Not Disturb option select Notifications

3) On the Notifications page, select Do Not Disturb

4)Now it is time to set your options…

You can turn on Schedule and set times to not be disturbed. This works well if you have some place you should be each day. Set this from bed time until after your morning blocked time and really get some work done

You can allow calls from your favorites to still come through (or you can select a specific group in your contacts) This will allow you to take a call from your spouse, your boss or anyone that you know if they are calling during this key time it must be an emergency

You can even set the Do Not Disturb setting to allow a repeat call to come through. This means anyone that calls you twice within 3 minutes will be let through.

Now you have been able to figure a way to focus better at work and avoid the Squirrel Syndrome that many people suffer from in today’s world of shiny objects. With all of that figured out…Get back to work!
